Welcome to the Northern Ireland Dorset Club Website
The Northern Ireland Dorset Sheep Breeder's Club has been in existence for over 50 years and has grown rapidly in recent times; there are currently around 100 members. The club is very active in promoting the Dorset breed and supporting and encouraging the breeders through the development of breeding techniques, knowledge and skills to further expand the population of Dorset Sheep in Northern Ireland. As well as ensuring special Dorset classes at agricultural shows, the club organise two pedigree sales, the Premier Sale in July and the Autumn Sale in October, both held in McClellands Livestock Market, Ballymena.
Recently a lamb marketing scheme has been set up, the only one of its kind in Northern Ireland, with Crossgar Meats, which pays a premium for pure-bred Dorset lambs, produced by club members, facilitating a year round bonus for out of season lambing.
The social aspect of the Club is also very important and members seek to encourage new breeders to join in all club activities.
